Working in Independent Schools
Teachers are drawn to work in independent schools because of the autonomy they have together with members of their departments to craft courses and instruction exactly as they think best, the support they receive from administrators and colleagues, and the high quality of the relationships they are able to have with students. For these reasons teachers in independent schools have a high level of satisfaction and a high level of responsibility in shaping the culture of a school and the content of its curriculum. Independent school teachers work very hard but stay in the field because the personal and professional rewards are correspondingly great. |
Basic Requirements for Employment as a Teacher at North Cross School
North Cross School teachers must have at least a bachelor’s degree in their subject area, a passion for their discipline and a strong affection for young people. They must have a love of learning and creative energy so they can take advantage of the opportunities offered by our system and contribute to and further North Cross’s high standards. Ability to contribute outside the classroom, most especially in our athletic programs, is highly preferred. North Cross interviews both experienced teachers and those new to the field. |
Experienced Teachers
North Cross welcomes experienced teachers to the faculty by valuing the experience they bring with them and looking for ways we can learn from it. Each new teacher goes through a general orientation to help him or her get started and is assigned a member of the faculty who helps with getting adjusted to school life and teaching at this school. Each new teacher’s department head serves as support for all things related to the class room and Division Directors observe and meet with new teachers as well. Because of our size, new teachers gain responsibility quickly and are fully integrated into the faculty from the very first day. |
New Teachers
North Cross School is an excellent place to begin your teaching career. The faculty is a good mix of experienced teachers to learn from and young teachers to share experiences with. As with experienced teachers who join the faculty, each new beginning teacher goes through a general orientation to help him or her get started and is assigned a member of the faculty who helps with getting adjusted to school life and teaching. At North Cross new teachers have the resources needed to help them getting started well in the wonderful career of secondary education. |

Heard in the Halls
"I love the sense of community and belonging at North Cross. And everyone walks into the classroom each day excited and ready to learn. I love teaching here because teachers are motivated to be the best they can be, and there's always a buzz and excitement about learning."
"I love the size of this school and feel like I really know the kids across the grade levels. Because of the intimate classroom sizes, I get to work with small groups of students and really target exactly what they need. And everyone on the faculty and staff really care about you as a person and your family. It's a very positive place and people want to help you be successful. I also love how beautiful our campus is and how the outdoors is integrated with our buildings. There is so much care put into the design and landscaping of the campus."
